Salome, the 1918 J. Gordon Edwards silent Biblical historical romantic betrayal melodrama ("The seductress who sowed sin in ancient Galilee, whose tempestuous blood has traced a scarlet thread through the centuries"; "A Theda Bara Super Production"; based on the Biblical story of Salome, King Herod, and John the Baptist) starring Theda Bara ("Siren supreme of the screen"; in the title role as Salome), G. Raymond Nye (as King Herod), Alan Roscoe (as John the Baptist), Herbert Hayes, and Bertram Grassby. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.

Artist: Emilio Vila
Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We previously auctioned different French poster from this movie (as well as a few different U.S. items), and it sold for $9,275, and we have never before auctioned this French one-panel, and it is surely either one of a very few examples of this poster that survive, and possibly the sole surviving example!

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had small paper loss at some crossfolds and some creases, tears, and tiny paper loss on parts of some folds, with darkening on the folds that mostly only shows in the blank borders. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above.
