A 1960 Re-ReleaseVintage Theatrical Linenbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36") (Learn More) Ali Baba et les quarante voleurs (released in the U.S. as "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves" and "Dance of Desire" [see below]), the 1954 Jacques Becker French Arabian Nights romantic crime comedy starring Fernandel (in the title role as Ali Baba), Samia Gamal, Dieter Borsche, Henri Vilbert, and Edouard Delmont. Note that while we can find U.S. newspaper articles about the filming of this movie, we can find no theater ads for it. This indicates that, if there was a U.S. release in the 1950s, it was very limited. When the film was released in the U.S. in 1960, it was titled "Dance of Desire" and marketed almost as a sexploitation movie, focusing on Samia Gamal and her "torrid dance" scenes! While the 1960 release could be the first U.S. release for this film, we'll list it as a re-release until we learn more. If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some very minor defects that were not completely restored, and are slightly noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "Pre-Restoration Defects & Quality of Restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had very minor wear across the center (and it had two slightly diagonal folds near where the top and bottom folds normally are, that also had light wear). There were some minor border defects. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was well backed, and looks great! Learn More about condition grades
