An Original Vintage Unfolded French World War I Poster (measures 29 1/4" x 41 3/4" [74 x 106 cm]) (Learn More) Le Vetement du Prisonnier de Guerre (literally translates to "Clothes for the Prisoner of War"), the 1917 French World War I (WWI) poster encouraging people to donate to a fund associated with the Red Cross to help feed and clothe French and Belgian military and civilian prisoners in Germany. The poster mentions that many of the prisoners were taken in the summer and have no winter clothes. Note that this poster features Jean Louis Forain art of a seated soldier writing a letter with his hand over his face Artist: Jean Louis Forain Condition: good. The poster was placed on to a very thin linen backing shortly after being printed. The purpose was to reinforce the poster, so that it would survive, when it was passed from theater to theater, and when it was put up on walls and taken down. Such posters can be professionally removed from the original linen and placed on to a proper linen backing. It has darkened substantially and there is staining on back of the linen (likely removed from a surface).
