Rod Taylor was born Rodney Taylor in a suburb of Australia in 1929. He had planned to be an artist, but he saw Laurence Olivier in a stage production in Australia and that convinced him to become an actor! He moved to the U.S. in 1954 (wisely changing "Rodney" to "Rod"!), and he was far from an overnight success, doing much TV, and getting some small parts in major movies. In 1960, he got two big breaks. He was given the lead role in a TV series, Hong Kong, and was cast as George, The Time Traveler, in the wonderful movie, The Time Machine. Taylor continued in TV, until 1963, when he played the lead in Hitchcock's great The Birds, and that finally made him a movie star. He was very busy throughout the rest of the 1960s, in both romantic comedies and action movies. His career paralleled that of Sean Connery, who also had striking good looks and a great speaking voice, who also worked with Hitchcock but got an even bigger break in becoming James Bond, and Taylor likely got every single role that Connery turned down! In the 1970s he returned to a mix of movies and TV, and while he kept working in the 1980s and 1990s, his appearances became increasingly sporadic. In 2009 Quentin Tarantino talked him out of retirement to play Winston Churchill in Inglourious Basterds! He passed away in 2015 at the age of 84.

One final footnote. I loved The Time Machine as a kid (who wouldn't love it, with the scary Morlocks and the gorgeous young Yvette Mimieux, along with Taylor and Alan Young?), and have watched it umpteen times over the years. Yet somehow I missed that in 1993, the man who wrote the screenplay for the movie, David Duncan, wrote a brief scene, showing The Time Traveler and his best friend Filby reuniting many years later, and was able to coax both Rod Taylor and Alan Young (the original actors) to recreate their roles! This was filmed as "Time Machine: The Journey Back" and is included in a DVD release of the movie, along with a "Making of..." segment. I learned of this researching Taylor, and I ordered it, and recommend you do the same!
Important Added Info: Note that this is part of a remarkable find of 33 16" x 20" color transparencies from the 1960s (which we are auctioning in 33 separate auctions)! Prior to being consigned these 33, we had never auctioned even one transparency that was over 8" x 10" in size, and in fact, we did not even know that any studios made them larger. Each of the 33 is of a Hollywood star of the 1960s (a few of them we could not immediately identify, but we imagine someone viewing them will quickly let us know who those stars are). These are surely studio produced, as they are very high quality, and can certainly be used to make poster size blow-ups of the images. Unfortunately, we do not have a scanner large enough to scan these, so we took a picture of them with a light source behind them, but that only gives you a good idea of what the image looks like, and does NOT show you how incredibly high quality each transparency is!

This is a very special auction of 366 extremely rare negatives and transparencies of various sizes, and also lots of sets of 35mm slides. EVERY single item in this auction is either "studio issued" (meaning it was created by the studio and sent to theaters and movie outlets), OR it is a "camera original" (meaning it was the actual negative that was in the camera when the photographer took the picture). Every auction clearly identifies which they are, and there are no items being auctioned that are not either "studio issue" or "camera originals". We have divided them by type and size.

Also note that this auction is for one or more transparencies, and every one of the auctions of transparencies we are currently running have been scanned expertly. This auction contains the scan(s) of the transparencies in this auction, and, except in the case of very few larger sets of transparencies, we scanned each one individually (see above for what we did on this specific auction), and we have added an "eMoviePoster.com" watermark over it. The winner of this auction and ONLY the winner of this auction will, upon request, be sent the UNWATERMARKED scan(s) of the transparencies in this auction, which will both save them the time and expense of scanning them themselves, and also allow them to make positive prints of the items they purchased, if they desire. However, if it indicates above that we did not scan all the transparencies in this auction (which is only true of a very few transparencies), then of course we can only send you the photos we took of the ones we did not scan.

Condition: very good. There is a tiny chip in the top right black corner (see our image). Otherwise, the transparency is in excellent condition and will be sent to the winning bidder in a protective plastic bag!
