An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook Cover (measures 12 3/4" x 25 3/4" [32 x 65 cm]) (Learn More)

The Bride of Frankenstein, the classic 1935 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller sequel ("The Monster Demands a Mate!"; "The monster thriller"; "Who will be The Bride of Frankenstein. Who will dare?"; the second of the Universal Frankenstein movies, and the only example I am aware of where a sequel is clearly superior to the original movie!; this is James Whale's masterpiece, and almost everyone agrees it is among the finest movies ever made, regardless of genre) starring Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Colin Clive (as Dr. Henry Frankenstein), Valerie Hobson (as the bride of Dr. Frankenstein), Elsa Lanchester (in the title role as the bride of the Frankenstein monster, and also as Mary Shelley!), Una O'Connor, Ernest Thesiger (as Dr. Pretorius), E.E. Clive, O.P. Heggie, John Carradine, Dwight Frye (as Karl), Gavin Gordon, and Neil Fitzgerald

Important Added Info: Note that this auction is for the front cover of this pressbook only (the rest of the pressbook is NOT present). However, the cover of this pressbook is in full color, and it has an image that is not on any of the posters! It is similar to the insert image, but it has artwork where the image is photographic, and many collectors prefer the pressbook cover image to the insert image. The insert would sell for tens of thousands of dollars, so this pressbook cover, which certainly can be framed and enjoyed, is a wonderful way for a collector to have a 1935 poster from this movie on their wall! But bear in mind that only the cover of the pressbook is present (we have photographed the back of the cover, which has a different ad for the movie, and an area for the herald (a tiny bit of the herald is present). Also bear in mind that a complete pressbook is extremely expensive! In December 2015, we auctioned a complete pressbook that was only in "good" condition, and it auctioned for $29,500!

Condition: good, WITH CUTS. As noted above, only the pressbook cover is present. The pressbook cover has small tears and small paper loss down the left edge, where it was attached to the back cover. It has a lesser number of tears and some tiny paper loss in the other three borders. It was folded across the center and lightly partially folded a second time 2" beneath that. It had a fragment of the herald on the backside. The fold across the middle was separated in the right 4", and someone put tape on the back of that area and two pieces of tape on the back of tears in the left border, two pieces of tape on the back of the tears in the top border, and one piece of tape on the back of the tear in the top right (see our images for the exact locations of these tears and the tape). No other restoration was performed. The collector who owned it framed it and displayed it, and over the years, the reds in the poster faded considerably. You can clearly see the fading when you compare it to the complete example of the pressbook we auctioned at http://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archiveitem/12534736.html. In spite of the significant fading, the cover displays well as it is, or certainly, restoration could be performed. But please do not bid on this item unless you have carefully read all of the above and have looked closely at our super-sized images of the front and back.
