An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 16" x 22" [41 x 56 cm]; 24 pages) (Learn More) The Littlest Rebel, the 1935 David Butler Civil War Southern Confederate Army juvenile musical melodrama ("From the play by Edward Peble"; about a Southern plantation owner who joins the Confederate Army and occasionally visits his darling daughter; the soldier is sentenced to be executed, but his daughter personally gets a pardon from President Abraham Lincoln) starring Shirley Temple, John Boles, Jack Holt, Karen Morley, Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson (one of the first black African American actors to achieve success in mainstream sound movies), Guinn 'Big Boy' Williams, Willie Best, and Frank McGlynn Sr. (as President Abraham Lincoln). Note that this was the movie where Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson performs a "challenge dance" with Shirley Temple! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Joseph A. Maturo Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned a complete example of this very large pressbook, which measures 16" x 22" (we once auctioned an example of the back cover only)! Note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. There is tiny paper loss in the bottom right corner of all pages and in the left of the bottom border of all pages. Only blank white paper is affected. There are some smudges and stains on the back cover of the pressbook and some tiny tears and tiny bits of paper loss around the edges of some pages. Obviously one would prefer to find a better condition example of this pressbook but we don't know that another example exists. Learn More about condition grades
