What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had darkened. It had much paper loss at the middle crossfold and a thin strip of paper loss that was 6" wide at the bottom crossfold, with tiny paper loss at the top crossfold. It had paper loss in the left half of the middle horizontal fold and only a few small tears and tiny paper loss on the rest of the folds. It had scattered paper loss in a vertical line in the background to the right of Sutton's hat, extending into the brim of the hat. It had an 8" vertical tear running down the middle right of Sutton's face, and extending to the bottom border, and there had been tape on the back of that area. There were pinholes, tears, and paper loss around the edges of the poster. Fortunately, much of the paper loss and damage to the poster was in the bottom half, and the image of the Invisible Man had comparatively little damage. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. A really talented restorer expertly backed and restored the poster, and while you can see signs of the restoration, it displays pretty well from any reasonable viewing distance and will look wonderful on the new owner's wall. However, please bear in mind that it did have a substantial amount of fold and border restoration before placing a bid on this extremely rare poster!
