An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More)

Werewolf of London, the 1935 Stuart Walker England monster horror thriller ("Beware! Terror strikes in the night"; "Murder in the moonlight! Terror stalks! An unseen hand strikes!"; "Beware the wicked hour and the stalking being!"; "Beware the stalking being, half human, half beast!") starring Henry Hull (in the title role as the werewolf), Warner Oland (best remembered as Charlie Chan in the 20th Century Fox series), Valerie Hobson, Lester Matthews, Clark Williams, Spring Byington, Lawrence Grant, and J.M. Kerrigan. Note that this is the "forgotten" Universal horror movie of the 1930s, because Universal abandoned this portrayal of the werewolf, and created an entirely different wolf-man in 1941 with Lon Chaney Jr. in very different makeup from that which Henry Hull wore in this movie. But this was Universal's very first werewolf movie!

Important Added Info: Note that we auctioned this poster a year ago, and the person who purchased it had wonderful restoration performed, and has now reconsigned it. What was the problem with the card? It had been trimmed and it measured 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm], but, very fortunately, it was not trimmed "in half". Instead, a theater trimmed it around the edges, and the majority of the image and almost all of the title remained (there was a man at lower left that was mostly missing, most of the first "W" of the title was missing, and the word "Beware!" at the top with ghostly eyes to the right of it was also entirely missing, as was the back of the werewolf at bottom right). We had never auctioned this before, but we had a color copy of a completed card (we don't know the whereabouts of that one) and the high bidder sent that to the restorer, who, as we said above, did a wonderful job in replacing the missing areas. Obviously, one would prefer to find an untrimmed example, but that might take a lifetime to locate! Also note that first release 1935 movie paper from this classic first Universal werewolf movie is beyond scarce, and the posters from it sell for tens of thousands of dollars! We have never before auctioned this window card.

What IS paperbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. Prior to paperbacking, the window card was trimmed around the edges (see above). The missing areas were wonderfully replaced (also see above). I would say that the vast majority of collectors would not realize this unless it were told to them, even if they were looking at the card very close up. Obviously, this is a very significant defect, so bear it in mind and look at our super-sized image before bidding on this ultra rare card.
