Important Added Info: Note that this auction is for the "star child" style wilding poster (we are currently auctioning BOTH styles of "wilding" one-sheets). They were created in March 1970 by Mike Kaplan for the re-launch of this movie (see below for an explanation of what this means or click HERE for full details). We have only previously auctioned three examples of the "star child" style and two examples of the "eye" style, and we have never before auctioned both examples at one time (nor have we seen another auction that has done so). These posters were obtained 48 years ago by a woman who was a college student living in New York City who was friends with a man who worked in the publicity department at MGM, in their New York office. He gave her this set of two posters, which she displayed on the walls of the apartment she shared with three roommates! When she moved, she took them down and rolled them up and stored them ever since (and she later became a noted film critic!). It may be many, many years before these two posters are again offered at the same time by us or any auction!

Note that this is one of two special wilding posters created for the 1970 re-launch of this movie by Mike Kaplan, who was 2001's marketing point man, which adopted a completely different ad campaign, and a new tagline, "the ultimate trip". These two posters were conceived by Mr. Kaplan, and when the movie was given its 70mm (with full stereo sound, correct lenses, etc.) re-launch in March 1970, Mr. Kaplan had many examples of these two posters printed, and they were used in New York City, where they were posted on walls and building sites all over New York City just prior to the movie's release (this was called "wildposting" in 1970, but nowadays it is called "wilding"). We have created a webpage that gives the full history of this re-launch and these two posters (as related to us by Mike Kaplan himself!), and you can read that history HERE

Condition: good. The poster was never folded. As described above, it was displayed on a college student's wall, and she attached it to the wall with a small piece of tape on the back of each corner and two evenly spaced small pieces of tape on the back of both the left and right borders. The poster has many light creases scattered throughout, with a few scuffs. The poster has darkened somewhat, much more noticeably in the blank borders. Obviously, the poster can have restoration performed, or it could be displayed as it is (that will be a decision to be made by the new owner of this extremely rare poster).
