An Original Vintage Folded French Magic Show Poster (measures 47" x 63" [119 x 160 cm]) (Learn More)

Francois Benevol (born Francesco Benevolo) was an Italian magician from the 1890s to the 1930s. Although he was Italian by birth, he mostly performed in France, where he was billed as a Mexican magician. He performed a wide variety of magical routines, including coin manipulations with gloved hands, and a mind-reading segment featuring his assistants Jeniska or Madame Lucile. His most famous trick was a grisly guillotine illusion called Le Coupeur de Tete (The Headcutter), where he appeared to actually sever a man's head! He passed away in 1939 at the age of 73.
Artist: Faria
Important Added Info: Note that in searching for information about this poster, we saw very similar posters that were dated in the 1910s and in the 1920s. We suspect that this magician had more than one poster created over the years, since this was his signature trick. This poster may date from either the 1910s or the 1920s. If anyone knows more about it, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Condition: good. The poster has some tears and paper loss around the edges, and smaller tears and smaller paper loss on parts of the folds, with some tiny stains scattered in parts of the poster. After linenbacking, the poster will display wonderfully!
