An Original 1921 (from the first release of this movie in ) Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures 3 1/4" x 4" [8 x 10 cm]) (Learn More)

Carmen, the 1918 (released in the U.S. in 1921 as "Gypsy Blood") Ernst Lubitsch German silent romantic doomed romantic melodrama ("Pola Negri in a love tale of old Spain"; "A stirring love tale of Old Spain from the original French version of Prosper Merimee's 'Carmen'"; "A might marvel of the screen with multitudes of payers"; "She lifted her soldier sweetheart for the famous matado."; "She flirted with the dragon while the smugglers escaped through the portal."; "'A wolf and a dog can not be mates for long'"; "The Gypsy maid concealed her wounded lover in a crevice in the mountains."; "'We will celebrate your liberty, my brave Hidalgo'"; "She won his heart by her mad gypsy dance."; "'We are from the same country Sergeant You must free me!'") starring Pola Negri (in the title role as Carmen), Harry Liedtke (as Don Jose), Leopold von Ledebur (as Escamillo), Paul Biensfeldt, and Paul Conradi. Note that Cecil B. DeMille had filmed Carmen in 1915 with Geraldine Farrar in the lead role, and Raoul Walsh had also filmed it in 1915 with Theda Bara in the lead role. In 1918, Ernst Lubitsch filmed this German version, but it wasn't released in the U.S. until 1921, because of the two earlier versions, and when it was released, it was re-titled "Gypsy Blood" to avoid confusion with the other two movies. In 1923, both Lubitsch and Negri moved to the United States, after making many German films.

Important Added Info: This slide is the kind that has two panes of glass that are taped together with black tape around all four edges (front and back), typical of many older glass slides. We have provided a high quality scan of the image, but we have not taken a photo of the slide, because there would really be very little to see!

Condition: fair to good. There is a vertical crack in the back pane in the top center, but it is not very visible from the front.
