The Death of Klinghoffer, the 1991 Peter Sellars musical murder stage play melodrama (based on the libretto by Alice Goodman, with music by John Adams) starring Stephanie Friedman, Thomas Young, Sanford Sylvan, James Maddalena, Janice Felty, Thomas Hammons, Thomas Young, and Sanford Sylvan (in the title role as Leon Klinghoffer). Note that Leon Klinghoffer's death was a major real life tragedy. When the PLF (the Palestine Liberation Front) hijacked the cruise ship Achille Lauro in 1985, they took Mr. Klinghoffer, who was disabled and in a wheelchair, and they shot him, killed him, and threw him overboard, because he was Jewish. This play was written to make certain his tragic death would not be forgotten.
