eMoviePoster.comCool Item Of the Week: A Virgin in Hollywood pressbook cover!Return to Cool Item of the Week Archive Added: 02/14/2011 As many of you know, I, Bruce Hershenson, owner of eMoviePoster.com, have collected pressbooks (and related movie paper like studio yearbooks) for over 30 years, and I have the world's foremost collection of such material. I thought I would share one item with you each week, the type of items you almost surely have never seen before, and which might not come up for sale for DECADES! This week, I have the pressbook cover for A Virgin in Hollywood, the 1953 sexploitation melodrama (about the editor of a small-town newspaper who sends his star reporter out to Hollywood to get the real story of what goes on in Hollywood) created by and starring a bunch of nobodies! This is a classic example of a great sexploitation ad campaign that promises a lot and delivers next-to-nothing. Few people who collect sexploitation posters do so for the quality of the movies, but rather they collect because so often these low budget sleazy movies had WONDERFUL posters, with great images, titles, and/or taglines.
See the pressbook cover by clicking this thumbnail: We were consigned a large collection of sexploitation one-sheets and pressbooks (including many of the best movies of Russ Meyer, plus many other rare early titles), and you will find 174 of these one sheets in our Tuesday auction, and 13 of the pressbooks in our Sunday auction. These movies played in very few theaters, and their posters and pressbooks are far more rare than those from mainstream movies of the same years! Each week I will showcase a different pressbook (or related item) from my collection (so in just 25,000 weeks or so, I will have shared the entire collection with you!).
