Nellie Elizabeth "Irish" McCalla was born in Pawnee City, Nebraska. She moved to Hollywood when she was 17, and after working as a waitress and at an aircraft factory, she married and had two sons.

But she also became a model (among other jobs she posed for pinup artist Alberto Vargas when he was working for Esquire), and she had a cameo role in a 1952 movie, River Goddesses. She was 5'10" and her measurements were reportedly 39-24-38!

Her big break came when she was chosen to play the lead role in TV's "Sheena: Queen of the Jungle", although it only ran for one season in 1955, that is the role she is best remembered for! Over the next few years she appeared in a handful of movies and TV shows, including The Beat Generation, Five Gates to Hell, and Five Bold Women.

She had several marriages and divorces, and after her career wound down she became a successful painter in Prescott, Arizona. She passed away in 2002 at the age of 73.
