George Orwell (born Eric Arthur Blair) was an English novelist, journalist, and critic from the 1920s to 1950. Orwell's work remains influential in popular and political culture, and the adjective "Orwellian" (describing totalitarian and authoritarian social practices) is now part of the English language. He is best remembered for two of his novels: Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984), both classics of dystopian fiction. He passed away in 1950 at the age of 46.
