Edward R. Murrow was a legendary broadcast journalist and war correspondent from the 1930s to the 1960s. He first reported the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany with fellow journalist William L. Shirer (together they were known as the Murrow Boys!), and stayed in Europe to cover World War II (WWII). After the war, Murrow reluctantly accepted William S. Paley's offer to become a vice president of the network and head of CBS News, and worked in both radio and later the new medium of television. Murrow gave up his vice presidency, however, and hosted several shows, such as radio's "Hear It Now", and TV's "Person to Person". Murrow passed away in 1965 at the age of 57. No doubt broadcast journalism would not be what it is today without him!
