Bobby Short (born Robert Waltrip Short) was an black African American cabaret singer and pianist from the 1940s to the 2000s. He was best known for his interpretations of songs by popular composers of the first half of the 20th century (such as Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Noel Coward and George and Ira Gershwin). He also championed African American composers of the same period such as Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn and more. He passed away in 2005 at the age of 80.
