George Gaynes was an actor from the 1950s to the 1990s. He was born in Finland to Dutch and Russian parents, and he was raised in several European countries. He had an interesting early life that had nothing to do with acting, and then served in World War II, and afterwards, he first started acting, and he primarily appeared on Broadway and on other stages, playing the role of Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady, among many others. He later graduated to character parts, and he found a second career in movies and on TV as wildly comic older men! Some of his movies include: The Group, The Way We Were, Police Academy (as Commandant Lassard in parts 1 through 7!), Tootsie (in a great small role as the lecherous Dr. Brewster), and Altered States. He co-starred as Henry Warnimont in TV's "Punky Brewster". He passed away in 2019 at the age of 98.
