MAURITZ STILLER

Mauritz Stiller was, together with Victor Sjostrom, one of the two greatest early Swedish directors. He started in 1912. In 1924, he made "Gosta Berlings saga" with 18 year old Greta Garbo, and he recognized she would be a gigantic star. He went together with her to America to make "The Temptress", but he continually fought with MGM executives, and they fired him, and he was unable to find other work in Hollywood, and he returned to Sweden in 1928, and he died soon after.
