LAURA LEE

Laura Lee (born Donivee Purkey) was an actress form the 1930s to the 1950s. She was born in Texas and was performing in a college production of "Our Town" when she was signed by a Paramount talent scout to a contract. She got much fanfare and publicity when she was first signed, and she appeared as a "Southern belle" in Reap the Wild Wind in 1941, and then she had no movie credits until Timber Fury in 1950, in which she played the lead, but that was the last of her movies, which doesn't make much sense. To make matters worse, the IMDb has merged her listing with that of a silent actress by the same name, who was born in 1910 in Brooklyn, New York, and who appeared in three movies in 1930! If anyone knows more about either of these actresses, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
