Bob Marley (born Robert Nesta Marley) was a Jamaican reggae singer, songwriter, musician, and political activist from the 1960s to the 1980s. He formed a group which, after several name changes, became Bob Marley and the Wailers. Considered one of the pioneers of reggae, his musical career was marked by fusing elements of reggae, ska, and rocksteady, as well as his distinctive vocal and songwriting style. He passed away in 1981 at age 36 from metastatic melanoma. Marley ranks as one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with estimated sales of more than 75 million records worldwide. He was posthumously honoured by Jamaica with a designated Order of Merit, and in 1994, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
