Jodie Foster is a child actress who successfully made a transition to adult roles from the 1970s to the present. She was born Alicia Christian Foster, but her older siblings nicknamed her Jodie as a child, and the name stuck. Her early roles include the Walt Disney films Freaky Friday and Candleshoe, the cult classic The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane, and "more adult" roles in Carney and Foxes. Some of her best remembered movies include: Taxi Driver (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), The Silence Of The Lambs (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Contact, Nell (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), and The Accused (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film). In recent years, she has become a director as well! In 2013, she casually revealed what had been talked about for a long time, that she was a lesbian, and the following year, she married.
