Lawson Wood was an English painter, illustrator, and designer who created a series of heavy stock Home Front posters during World War II that included his humorous depictions of cavemen, dinosaurs, policeman, and various animals including a chimpanzee called Gran'pop doing completely human things like driving cars and playing sports. The purpose of each of the posters was to encourage the local population to "do their part" in the war effort, by doing things like conserving gas, not being absent from work, working really hard, etc. He passed away in 1957 at the age of 79.
