The Mothers of Invention, who were an American rock 'n' roll (rock and roll) band from 1965 into the 1970s. Originally a band called "The Soul Giants" (with Ray Collins, David Coronado, Roy Estrada and Jimmy Carl Black), they invited Frank Zappa to join the band in 1965, which he agreed to do if they would perform his original music, and on Mother's Day, they changed their name to "The Mothers", which, for legal reasons, was quickly changed to "The Mothers of Invention". They are one of the best remembered bands of the 1960s.
