Charmian Carr was an actress who was "plucked from obscurity" in 1964 when she was chosen to play the "16 going on 17" Liesl in "The Sound of Music" (even though she was 22!). She had no prior acting or singing experience, but her family was in music for many years, including her two sisters. In 1968, after touring to promote the movie, she left acting and started a family, but in the 1970s, she appeared in over 200 TV commercials, and has run an interior design business for many years. She wrote two books about her Sound of Music character. In 1999, she appeared at a special showing of the movie called "Sing-a-Long Sound of Music", which had a successful run in big cities all over the world. She passed away in 2016 at the age of 73.
