Walter Lantz was a legendary American cartoonist, animator and director from the 1910s to 1982. He worked for many top studios in the earliest days of animation, including the Bray studio, and he did Oswald the Rabbit for Columbia, but he is best known for creating the cartoon character Woody Woodpecker (and Lantz's wife Grace supplied Woody Woodpecker's distinctive voice!). He passed away in 1994 at the age of 94.
