Althea Gibson was one of the greatest female tennis players ever, starting in the 1950s. In 1956 she was the first African American woman to win a Grand Slam title, she was the first to play tennis at Wimbledon (and who won twice), she then joined the Harlem Globetrotters and also played golf in the LPGA (where she also broke the color barrier). She appeared in the movie The Horse Soldiers in 1959. Gibson passed away in 2003 at the age of 76.
