SPIDER-MAN (character)
Spider-Man (aka: The Amazing Spider-Man, Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, The Spectacular Spider-Man) is a comic book superhero co-created by Steve Ditko and Stan Lee in August 1962 in Marvel Comics' Amazing Fantasy #15. After this one-shot, he was given his own title. The origin of the character is disputed. It seems that Stan Lee thought of the name, told Jack Kirby to draw a story with that character, and then Lee didn't like what Kirby delivered, and asked Steve Ditko to do it instead. Ditko's version is drastically different from Kirby's, and it appears that most of Stan Lee's contribution to the creation was the name, and this is one of the most highly contested subjects in the comic book hobby! The cover of Amazing Fantasy #15 is based on Kirby's original concept, but the interior is entirely Steve Ditko. In the original comic series ("The Amazing Spider-Man"), Spider-Man is the alias of Peter Parker, an orphan raised by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben in New York City. His origin story has him acquiring spider-related abilities after a bite from a radioactive spider. Marvel has also published books featuring alternate versions of Spider-Man, including Miles Morales, who takes up the mantle of Spider-Man after Peter Parker's supposed death. The hero has appeared in many comic series, including The Amazing Spider-Man, The Spectacular Spider-Man, Marvel Team-Up, Web of Spider-Man, Spider-Man, Spider-Man Unlimited, and many more!. The Spider-Man character has also appeared in various television shows, books and multiple successful movies (where he was played by Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland).
