Did you know... that we always take a new photo of every item we auction, even if we have auctioned it many times before?

Did you know... that we always take a new photo of every item we auction, even if we have auctioned it many times before?

We were recently asked by a customer who thought we might re-using the same photo when we auctioned examples of the same poster several times over a one year period, and he noted that they SEEMED to have the "same" minor defects, so he wondered if we were using a "stock" image to save on time (as many auctions and dealers are known to do as standard policy). We replied:

"No, we NEVER use an image of any other poster than the actual one we are auctioning! But we want to explain how the minor defects could seem so similar.

Often, we will receive more than one example of a poster from a single consignor (usually this is either because they purchased the posters together when they first came out, or because they were found in a poster exchange and were never distributed). When that happens, they are usually in roughly the same condition.

Why is this? If those posters are in a stack, or rolled together, then they receive the same defects as they were stored over the years, so if you think of it that way, it makes perfect sense.

But know too that in our auctions, we DO always picture the item being sold and never use one photo to represent other examples of the item, so you can know for certain that the image shown is of the exact item you are bidding on.

In the case of the poster you are talking about, I could take the photos of the last several examples of this poster we sold and show side-by-side how the defects are not absolutely identical (even though they appear to be from first glance), but that would take a lot of extra time to do that and I promise you that this is the absolute truth!"

Here's a comic strip we commissioned by ace cartoonist Erik Andresen in 2009 that very nicely illustrates our policy on stock images:
