Cool Item Of the Week: Miss Susie Slagle's pressbook

Cool Item Of the Week: Miss Susie Slagle's pressbook

As many of you know, I, Bruce Hershenson, owner of eMoviePoster.com, have collected pressbooks (and related movie paper like studio yearbooks) for over 30 years, and I have the world's foremost collection of such material. I thought I would share one item with you each week, the type of items you almost surely have never seen before, and which might not come up for sale for DECADES!

So below is the pressbook from Miss Susie Slagle's, the 1946 John Berry romantic love triangle medical hospital student doctor melodrama ("Alive with youth! Aglow with life! Aflame with love! A famous best-seller comes to the screen... each chapter glowing with tenderness, the gayety [sic], and the laughter of Miss Susie's boys and the girls they loved."; "'A picture of which the screen and all who live by it may well be proud.'"; "From a Novel by Augusta Tucker"; "Adaptation by Anne Froelick and Adrian Scott") starring Veronica Lake ("...in a dramatic role that casts new light on her loveliness."), Sonny Tufts ("...in the greatest role of his sensational career."), Joan Caulfield ("...she steps right into the forefront of Hollywood's great... in this picture!"), Billy De Wolfe, Ray Collins, Bill Edwards, Pat Phelan, Renny McEvoy, Lloyd Bridges, and Lillian Gish ("...fist lady of the screen in a role that will be forever memorable."; in the title role as Miss Susie Slagle). Note that although this movie was originally made in 1944, most of the movie paper advertising has a 1945 copyright on it, and the movie was not actually finally released until 1946!

Here is an image of the pressbook's covers and an interior two-page spread:

Each week I will showcase a different pressbook (or related item) from my collection (so in just 20,000 weeks or so, I will have shared the entire collection with you!). And remember to check out our previous Cool Items of the Week in our Cool Item of the Week archive (which is fully searchable!).
