We only auction linenbacked and paperbacked items in our major auctions. But we also add in unbacked items that are very desirable and also rarely auctioned (like the lobby cards and a few unbacked posters seen in our previews, which will be in our Spring Major Auction). We want what our consignors want which is for their items to be in the auction that will yield them the most money!

But quite often, consignors see the words "major auction" and think, "I will do much better if my unbacked items are THERE, rather than in the regular auctions", and so they ask me to PLEASE make sure to put their consignments in the next major auction. On the face of it, that sounds logical, because wouldn't "lesser" items do FAR better if they are mixed in with really great items?

But in actual practice, including unbacked items in our major auctions (ones that are not real rarities or really desirable) often has exactly the opposite effect!

Why? Because in the major auction, these kinds of items are usually among the least expensive items there, but in the regular auctions, they will be either among the very best or somewhere near the best items, and because of that, they would stand out far more (a "big fish in a little pond"), and I have found over and over that items do better when they are more interesting than what they are being auctioned with.

It is only natural to realize that I want to get my consignors as much as possible for their items (without doing anything deceptive or dishonest), because we get more money as the items auction for more and because we want those consignors to send us lots more items in the future!

But this does not mean that we have an arbitrary "minimum value" for unbacked major auction consignments, as so many other auctions house do. We are open to including any item that fits the description of "very rare", "very desirable" and in "very nice condition", even if it might not sell for that much (and even if your items only have two of those factors we will consider them).

So if you have any unbacked items you think MIGHT fit in our major auctions, send us an email and tell us what they are, and we will give you our thoughts as to which auctions will get you the most money. Or you could do as so many of our 2,400+ consignors do and leave it to us to decide where to place the items (both because we want what you want, to get the most money, and because we have 29 years experience, auctioning literally millions of movie paper items for over $75 million dollars!).
