Film Description

Alistair McLean's Bear Island, the 1981 Don Sharp arctic polar action adventure mystery thriller ("Alistair MacLean's Mystery Thriller"; "Below freezing and beyond fear... Will anyone survive its terror?"; "...Hell frozen over?"; '"At a remote united Nations outpost in the frozen North Sea ... Something has gone terribly wrong."; "From the novel by Alistair MacLean") starring Donald Sutherland, Vanessa Redgrave, Richard Widmark, Christopher Lee, Barbara Parkins, Lawrence Dane ('billed as also starring Lawrence Dane") and Lloyd Bridges (few major Hollywood stars have been so late in achieving stardom!; Bridges made a few movies in 1936 at the age of 23, but then worked on the stage until 1941, when he signed a contract with Columbia Pictures at the age of 28; it was several more years before he started playing leading roles, and he was caught up in the Hollywood blacklist of the early 1950s; he remained a minor star through much of the 1950s, but finally achieved stardom in TV's "Sea Hunt" in 1958; years later, he played wild parody roles in the "Airplane" and "Hot Shots" movies; he is, of course, also well remembered as the father of Jeff and Beau Bridges, both of whom have had similarly unconventional Hollywood careers as their father!)

More About This Item

Featuring R. Graves Artwork

The back of the poster is stamped "ENG" and was intended for use by English speaking audiences in countries outside the U.S. (there would also have been a poster stamped "SPAN" that was intended for non-English speaking audiences in countries outside the U.S.).

Note that next to the lot number in the title of this auction we put "FF". The "FF" is a note for our shipping department to let them know the poster is stored "Fully Folded". This allows us to more quickly find the item in our warehouse, therefore helping us to ship all orders as quickly as possible. Other items will have either a "UF" (UnFolded), "TF" (Tri-Folded), or "FF" (Fully Folded) next to the lot number, but please know that no matter which you buy (or if you buy any combination thereof), you only pay a single U.S. shipping charge (non-U.S. orders are charged the actual cost of shipping), as we can unfold tri-folded or fully folded posters and roll them in with unfolded posters, thus sending a single package.

Note: "emovieposter" is only on our digital image, NOT on the actual item. Also, we are changing our photography setup! Images with a solid black background are ones that were photographed on our new black metal background. We now hold the posters in place with magnets (so we do not attach the poster to the wall in any way), which are small and round and resemble "push pins", but we assure you they are NOT! If an image has a black background, know that the odd circles in the edges of the item are magnets that hold it in place, and are NOT a defect!
Overall Condition:
very good to fine
Notable Defects: The poster has very minor fold wear, and is overall in quite nice condition!

Explanation Of What This Condition Grade Means:
This item has only a few VERY minor imperfections. We may have written just a few words about those imperfections, but we may not have, as they are very minor. Note that we are very harsh condition graders, and that our "very good to fine" compares favorably to many dealers' "fine" condition! You should look at our "super-sized" image of the actual item, which will confirm just how nice this item is!

More About This Poster Type: One-Sheets are the standard movie poster size, what you see outside of any movie theater. From 1896 until roughly 1990, almost all actual theater-used one-sheets measured 27" x 41" (since then, most one-sheets measure 27" x 40"). Up until 1980 (or thereabouts) the vast majority of one-sheets were folded twice horizontally and once vertically (this is in no way considered a defect). Sometime during the late '70s, studios began printing one-sheets rolled. Most one-sheets after the mid-1980s are printed unfolded, though it is still possible to find some newer posters folded. Many newer one-sheets are printed double-sided (with a mirror image on the back) for use in a light box in front of the theaters. However, sometimes the studios also print some posters single-sided, so a recent poster can be single-sided and still be studio issued. All of the one-sheets (unless otherwise noted) being sold by eMoviePoster are original vintage theater-used one-sheets (or printed intended for theater-use, but they never made it to theaters)!
