An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Captive Wild Woman, the 1943 Edward Dmytryk Universal mad scientist horror thriller ("Shockingly Savage"; a wild movie about a mad scientist who is convinced that animals have a huge amount in common with human beings, and he injects an intelligent female gorilla with a serum he invented, and it turns the gorilla into a beautiful girl, but when she is "aroused", she returns to her original state!) starring Evelyn Ankers, John Carradine, Milburn Stone, Lloyd Corrigan, Martha MacVicar, Vince Barnett, Acquanetta (billed as "Introducing Acquanetta as the Gorilla Girl"), Fay Helm, and Ray Corrigan (uncredited as "Cheela" the ape). Note that this movie has one of the most sought after and wonderful images of the 1940s (with a gorilla holding a beautiful girl), but it really doesn't in any way give an idea of what the movie is actually about! Also note that Clyde Beatty staged the wild animal scenes in this movie, and footage was used that showed the real Beatty, so character actor Milburn Stone was cast in a major part, because he resembled Beatty enough that the stock footage would pass! Acquanetta never speaks during the movie (not surprising, since her character is actually a gorilla transformed into a human)! Finally, note that Crash Corrigan made a REALLY wise investment in the 1930s, when he bought a "gorilla suit". In many of the movies in the 1940s where there is a fake gorilla, it is played by Crash Corrigan, no doubt because he could supply the suit! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had very minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were well restored, OR it had some minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had paper loss in three corners and pinholes around the edges of the image (some in the red background). There were two pinholes in the ape's upper chest and four pinholes in the girl's dress just above the top crossfold. Other than the above defects, the poster was in nice condition prior to backing. The person who backed the poster did not do any restoration, but any talented restorer could repair the above basically minor defects without re-backing the poster. Note that the linen backing this poster has had has slightly "rippled" (perhaps because it was removed from the stretcher before the poster had a chance to fully dry). Given that the poster was never fully restored, I would think it would make the most sense to re-back the poster, but certainly many people could display this great poster just as it is and be quite happy with it.
