A Matted 1978 Original Vintage 11" x 14" Still (entire display measures 11 1/4" x 17 1/4" [29 x 44 cm]) (Learn More) Hedy Lamarr, surely one of the most beautiful women ever, was born in 1914 (or was it 1913?). She was born Hedwig Kiesler in Vienna Austria, and she appeared in movies in Germany and Czechoslovakia as a teen. In 1933, she stunned the world when she appeared in the Czechoslovakian movie Ekstase (released internationally as Ecstasy) because she both appeared completely nude and in sex scenes! Naturally that caught the eye of Hollywood, and she was signed by MGM and renamed, although her next movie was not for five years later. She held on to her beauty quite well throughout the 1940s (nicknamed "The Most Beautiful Woman in Films"), and her biggest hit came at the end of that decade, playing Delilah to Victor Mature's Samson. She had a complicated private life! She is credited with major scientific inventions, and she had run-ins with the law for shoplifting. In 1974 Mel Brooks named one of the lead characters in Blazing Saddles "Hedley Lamarr", and she sued him over that! She is also best remembered for her roles in Show Business at War, The Love Goddesses, and H.M. Pulham, Esq. She passed away in 2000 at the age of 85. Important Added Info: Note that this still (which is one of two stills we are auctioning in separate auctions, one of Hedy Lamarr and one of Jean Harlow) have an unusual history. They were originally created for the opening of the MGM Grand Hotel in Reno, Nevada, in 1978. They were placed on the walls and in hallways, and they were in two sizes, 11" x 14" and 24" x 36". So many guests stole them off the walls that the hotel stopped making them! When the hotel was sold in 1992, it was completely renovated, and there was an auction of many of the items from the hotel, and our consignor bought a number of these remaining photos, and over the years, he has sold them, and has consigned these two remaining ones to us. He tells us that the smaller ones hung in the restaurant at the hotel, and he believes that a very small number of each were made, and that they were made from original negatives that MGM had in their archives. We have never auctioned either of these before Condition: good. The photo is glued to the back mat and it was displayed in with the front mat over parts of the borders of the photo. The photo has discolored somewhat, but not in the borders that were covered (see our images). Learn More about condition grades
