An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded English Double Crown Movie Poster (DC; measures 20 1/4" x 30" [51 x 76 cm]) (Learn More)

Atlantic, the 1929 E.A. Dupont (Ewald Andre Dupont) English seafaring luxury ocean liner disaster action thriller ("The leviathan of all 'Talkies'"; "E.A. Dupont's masterpiece with the strongest cast ever assembled in any picture"; "Read these press opinions"; based on a stage play by Ernest Raymond; about the sinking of the Titanic, but likely because they had a somewhat limited budget, the movie ends as the ship is sinking, which was surely somewhat disappointing to the audiences viewing it, but on the other hand, this was just 17 years after the disaster, and it might have been thought to be bad taste to show the actual sinking, since many of the relatives were still alive) starring Franklin Dyall, Donald Calthrop, Madeleine Carroll, Ellaline Terriss, John Longden, John Stuart, Monty Banks, D.A. Clarke-Smith, Sydney Lynn, Joan Barry, Helen Haye, Francis Lister, and Arthur Hardy. Note that the recent discovery that the Titanic broke into three pieces and not two casts severe doubt on the sequence of events of the sinking as portrayed in this movie and several others. It now seems far more likely that the ship sank in a very short period of time, and that the passengers had little chance to perform any of the things they are shown doing in the various movie adaptations of this tragic event! This was an English version of "Atlantic", made by British International Pictures. Universal did the same thing with "Dracula" in 1931. They filmed the movie twice, once in English, and once in Spanish, with two entirely different casts, U.S. actors for the English version and mostly Latin actors for the Spanish version, obviously for release in Spanish speaking countries, and the same was done with this movie, except it was released in German, English, and French (the French language version, "Atlantis", released in 1930, starred Maxime Desjardins and Alice Field, and the German version, "Atlantik" starred Fritz Kortner and Elsa Wagner). If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this English movie! Also note that this English double crown measures 20 1/4" x 30" [51 x 76 cm]. Please do not bid on it thinking that it is 20" x 30". Finally, note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube.

Condition: very good. There is minor separation at the center crossfold and there is a very small tear in the left of the bottom edge. Overall, the poster is in nice condition, especially considering its age!
