An Original 1950 (from the first release of this movie in Italy) Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Italian Three-Panel Movie Poster (3p; measures 55 1/4" x 117 1/4" [140 x 298 cm]) (Learn More)

Three Godfathers, the 1949 John Ford cowboy western ("John Wayne's greatest role"; "John Ford's legend of the Southwest!"; from the story by Peter B. Kyne; about bank robbers who kill a man during a holdup, and they escape into the desert, and they find a woman who is giving birth, and she dies, but when they learn that the father was the man they killed, they feel it is their duty to get the baby to safety, but it is all they can do to save themselves) starring John Wayne, Pedro Armendariz, Harry Carey Jr. (billed as "introducing Harry Carey, Jr."), Ward Bond, Mae Marsh (the famous silent star), Jane Darwell, Ben Johnson, and Hank Worden. The very first adaptation was by Broncho Billy Anderson in 1915's "Broncho Billy and the Baby", followed by another version a year later under the source novel's name, followed by a third version called "Marked Men" in 1919. That movie was remade twice, both times under the source novel's name, in 1936, and in 1949, that time with John Wayne, and it was not directly remade again, although other movies borrowed elements of the plot.

Artist: Ercole Brini
Important Added Info: Note that this is a very rare Italian three-panel poster (printed in three separate sections that were rolled, not folded; see below). We originally auctioned this poster in April of 2017, but the high bidder did not notice that it was unfolded and needed to be sent in a long tube, and he asked to cancel the auction, and we did, because we feel it is a wonderful poster that should have been in our Major Auction in the first place, so here it is now, and it is the only example of this poster we have auctioned! Also note that this Italian three-panel was printed in 3 sections designed to overlap. Interestingly, none of the three sections were folded (perhaps this is because it is a very early Italian poster from 1950, before the sizes were standardized). The three sections of the poster are rolled together and will need to be sent in a tube that is approximately 43" long.

Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded (see above). There are some spots of slight discoloration scattered in various areas and there is light edge wear. Other than the above defects (which will be easily corrected during a simple linenbacking), the poster is in nice condition!
