An Original Vintage Movie Wardrobe Pants (Learn More)

Robert Walker was born in 1918, but sadly he only lived until the age of 32. He was a brooding sensitive actor before the likes of Clift and Brando. He had several major hits between 1943 and 1946, including Since You Went Away, and the excellent cult favorite, The Clock, with Judy Garland.

But his wife, Jennifer Jones (with whom he had two young children), began having an affair with producer David O. Selznick in 1943, and two years later the affair became publicly known and they separated, and his heart was broken and he became a major alcoholic, and his career suffered greatly (meanwhile, Selznick dumped his wife and married Jones).

In 1951 he made a great comeback as the crazy murderous Bruno in Hitchcock's Strangers On a Train, but he passed away the year it was released, after an accidental overdose of drugs and alcohol. Walker was 32 years old. He gave a quote that accurately summed up the tragedy of his life: "My personal life has been completely wrecked by David Selznick's obsession for my wife. What can you do to fight such a powerful man?"
Important Added Info: Note that our consignor purchased these pants at an auction that included Hollywood wardrobe items, but there is no certificate of authenticity, and our consignor has passed away, so we can't ask him questions about how he obtained them. They have a tag sewn in to the inside of the waist that reads "METRO-GOLDWYN-MAYER", and under that there is a space for "NAME" and "NO.". Handwritten next to "NAME" is "BOB WALKER" and handwritten next to "NO." is "1369-2272", and also "32-33". The number "1369" was the code given to "Till the Clouds Roll By", the 1946 MGM movie where Robert Walker played composer Jerome Kern. We think it is incredibly likely that these pants are from that movie and that they were worn by Robert Walker during the filming, but of course, we can't prove that. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Note that this item needs to be shipped in a box, which might be a fairly small box, or might be a very large box. What is important for the bidders to know is that this item very likely CAN'T be combined with other purchases, because there would not be much savings if any, because this item will be in a box with substantial depth (because the item is "three-dimensional"), while other purchases will be in a flat package, and trying to combine them would likely damage this item. If you purchase multiple items like this (ones that need to be packed in a box), then they likely can be combined with each other (unless the resulting box is simply too large). So please bear in mind that this item likely must be sent separately in a box (the size and depth of the box will depend on the size of the item), and bear this added expense in mind before placing a bid on it (so if you would pay $150 for the item, but the shipping is likely $100, then only bid $50 for the item).

Condition: very good to fine. The pants (and the attached suspenders) are in nice condition (see our images).
