Artist: Bob McCall
Important Added Info: Note that MGM and Stanley Kubrick wanted to do really innovative promotional material for this movie, and one of the things they did was create lenticular postcards for this movie! There were two styles of postcard, one showing the astronauts, and the other showing the space wheel. They also made a 10 1/2" x 13 1/2" special poster size version of the space wheel, and also a 23 1/4" x 33" special poster size version of the space wheel (both are on a stiff material that could not possibly be rolled). This auction is for the 10 1/2" x 13 1/2" space wheel lenticular. It has a really wonderful lenticular effect that is of course very hard to photograph! Believe me that when you see it in person you will be impressed, but of course, only the high bidder will see it in person! We have previously auctioned two of this size lenticular poster, and they sold for $2,110 (in very good condition) and $2,600 (in good to very good condition)! Finally, note that this lenticular poster has a white frame on it, with a hanger at the top of the back, and also once had a standee backing attached to the back of it. A knowledgeable collector tells us that he obtained one of these lenticular posters directly from the MGM exchange in Sydney, Australia and it featured the same frame & standee backing, so we are sure it was the studio that added the frame (but perhaps it was created both with and without the frame). The frame is a cool addition to this lenticular poster, and the past two examples of this poster we auctioned did not have the frame!

Condition: very good. There is faint scuffing scattered over the surface of the poster, but it is mostly only noticeable when the poster is tilted to the light. When looked at normally, it is not distracting at all. As noted above, there is a white metal frame around the edges of the lenticular, which we would think was created by the studio, but we can't say for certain (see above). The frame has a small crack in the bottom border, but the frame is intact, and the poster can certainly be displayed with it, although the frame could also be removed. Also, this poster once had a standee backing attached to the back, and that is no longer present (but you can see discoloration where it was, which is why we know it once had it; see our images). This wonderful and rare poster will display fantastically on the new owner's wall!
