An Original Vintage Theatrical Style B Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

H.G. Wells' The War of the Worlds, the classic 1953 Byron Haskin science fiction (sci-fi) Martian extraterrestrial alien invasion action thriller ("From the ends of the universe... they are reaching for YOU!"; produced by George Pal; based on the classic novel by H.G. Wells; about seemingly unstoppable aliens invading the Earth) starring Gene Barry, Ann Robinson, Les Tremayne, Robert Cornthwaite, Lewis Martin, and Ann Codee

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this style B half-sheet, both 8 years ago, when they sold for $17,100 (in "good" condition) and $20,777 (in "good to very good" condition)!

Note that this style B half-sheet from "War of the Worlds" is a legendary poster, and rightfully so! Whereas almost every other poster from the ad campaign has the "giant alien hand", this poster alone has the great "warships attacking" image, and every horror/sci-fi collector wants to have it in their collection, but because it is incredibly rare, very few do have it, and the few that have surfaced have sold for extremely high prices (see the prices we realized above for examples in lesser condition).

What IS gelbacking? Learn More

Condition: very good. The poster was never folded. It had darkening in the outer edges of each blank border (almost surely because it had been framed), and there were pinholes in the top and bottom borders, with paper loss in the top corners, due to rough removal of pins, and a few small tears and tiny paper loss in the blank borders, also likely caused by rough removal of pins. There was a very tiny pinhole in the lower center of the image, but otherwise, the image area was in wonderful condition prior to restoration, and the poster was in very good condition prior to restoration. A talented restorer gel backed the poster (meaning they backed the poster onto a gel material) and they then performed excellent restoration to the above border defects (there were no image defects to "restore"!), and then removed the gel backing, so that the poster still exactly looks and feels like an original poster (and it is!), with no backing at all. The poster is unfolded and the colors are bright, and this highly desirable poster will display wonderfully on the new owner's wall!
