An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures 3 1/4" x 4" [8 x 10 cm]) (Learn More) Mister Wu, the 1927 William Nigh silent China family relationship romantic melodrama ("From the play by Henry Maurice Vernon and Harold Owen..."; "Adaptation and continuity by Lorna Moon"; with Lon Chaney playing a dual role, as the Mandarin Mister Wu and his aged grandfather; in the movie, Mr. Wu's daughter falls in love with a Westerner, with predictable results) starring Lon Chaney Sr. (in the title role), Renee Adoree, Louise Dresser, Holmes Herbert, Ralph Forbes, and Anna May Wong. Note that Anna May Wong would have been perfect for the female lead in this movie (playing Chaney's granddaughter), but because that character had a love scene with a "white" man, MGM cast white Renee Adoree in the role (and she wore "yellowface" makeup to portray an Asian woman), so that audiences wouldn't have to see an interracial romance. Thankfully, the prejudices of that time no longer exist! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). We have taken a digital photo of each that shows the general condition of the overall slide and holder, and we have also made a digital scan that shows the glass image well, but does not show the holder (except as a dark outline). Condition: very good. The theater that used this slide wrote the days the movie was playing in the play dates section at the bottom of the glass.
