An Original Vintage Paperbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh) (Learn More)

Alice the Peacemaker, the 1924 Walt Disney silent live action/animated animation cartoon short featuring the voices of Virginia Davis (in the title role as Alice), Leon Holmes, and Spec O'Donnell. Note that Walt Disney is credited as "director", M.J. Winkler is credited as "producer" and that Rollin Hamilton and Ub Iwerks are credited as the "animators"! Note that Walt Disney was working in Kansas City in 1923 with Ub Iwerks and a small staff at the failing "Laugh-O-Gram Studio". They hit on the idea of a series of cartoons starring a live action girl combined with animated cartoon characters. They hired Virginia Davis and made "Alice's Wonderland". The cartoon was never released, because Disney's studio went bankrupt. Disney went to California, where he was able to make a deal with Winkler Pictures to make a series of Alice films. He completed 57 films in the series over the next three years. In the first 15 films, Virginia Davis played Alice, followed by Margie Gay in 31 of them, Dawn O'Day in 1, and Lois Hardwick in 10. The series would end in 1927, when Disney and Iwerks created Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, for whom they made cartoons through Universal in 1928, but when Universal treated Disney unfairly on the rights to the character, he abandoned it and, together with Iwerks, created Mickey Mouse, through his own Walt Disney Studio!
