An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (measures 12" x 18"; 16 pages). Also included are 2 ad supplements that have 5 pages and 1 page. (Learn More) Break of Hearts, the 1935 Philip Moeller romantic melodrama ("A new Hepburn to marvel at..."; "Electric Hepburn... ablaze in gorgeous gowns... together with the screen's new romantic idol"; based on the story by Lester Cohen; about a famous orchestra conductor who has many girlfriends, but then he meets a beautiful young female composer, and he falls in love and marries her, but then she catches him with another woman and leaves him) starring Katharine Hepburn, Charles Boyer, John Beal, Jean Hersholt, and Sam Hardy. Note that Francis Lederer was originally the male lead in this movie, but during the filming of the first romantic scene, he complained that the director wanted to show his "bad side", and he was immediately fired and replaced by Boyer, a young French actor (and this was a big break for Boyer, in one of his first major roles, and he was billed as "the screen's new romantic idol")! Also note that the orchestra conductor was based on two real-life conductors of the period: Leopold Stokowski, who was well known for his rearrangements of music by Bach, Wagner and other composers; and Arturo Toscanini, who was notorious for insulting his musicians during rehearsals the way the orchestra conductor does in the film. Important Added Info: NOTE THAT THIS PRESSBOOK WAS PURCHASED AT THE SOTHEBY'S AUCTION OF ITEMS FROM THE ESTATE OF KATHARINE HEPBURN, AND THIS PRESSBOOK PERSONALLY BELONGED TO KATHARINE HEPBURN! Note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of the pressbook, plus an image of any supplements or heralds (if there are any included with this pressbook), but of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are selling (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Also note that pressbooks were prepared prior to a movie being released. Often, changes would be made in a movie advertising campaign (billing of actors, different images, etc.), and the theaters would print up special supplements that they would send out with the pressbooks that had already been printed. These supplements are very rare, far more rare than the pressbooks themselves! Some pressbooks would have no supplements, some would have one, and some would have several. Condition: very good to fine. Note that this pressbook was folded across the center at one time. Because of this, this pressbook can be sent in one of our standard size packages (if it is purchased together with pressbooks that can NOT be folded, then it will of course have to be sent in one of our oversized packages). But if this pressbook is purchased by itself (or solely with other pressbooks that can be folded), then the shipping will be much lower, because it fits in a standard package.
