An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

Charles Chauvel's Forty Thousand Horsemen (40,000 Horsemen), the 1941 Charles Chauvel Australian World War I (WWI) military action thriller ("The Fighting Anzacs in Forty Thousand Horsemen"; "Magnificent in its inspired conception! Heroic spectacles that baffles description!"; "Adventure soul-stirring in its march across the broad canvas of nationhood... In the relentless spirit of men selling life dearly on the battlefield for the glory of victory. Action of tingling immensity as the greatest cavalry force in history - the Australian Light Horse - charges to victory. Romance that is born to blossom in a strange atmosphere. Fiction has known no greater love than Juliet devoted to the man of her heart."; "with a mighty cast headed by") starring Betty Bryant (billed as "The Breathtaking Beauty from Australia"), Grant Taylor, Chips Rafferty, Pat Twohill, Harvey Adams, and Michael Pate. Note that there is little information available about the U.S. release of this movie. We have seen a single U.S. Universal/Famous Productions lobby card from this movie that is dated 1941, but it is a sepia lobby card. We have also seen a color one-sheet and lobby cards from Goodwill/S.S. Krellberg that are undated. Both IMDB and a knowledgeable collector tell us that Goodwill/S.S. Krellberg were the 1941 U.S. first release studios. We know that Universal/Famous Productions distributed the film in Australia and we wonder if perhaps Universal started to release the movie in the U.S. and then decided not to, which would explain why we have only seen the one lobby card (and perhaps they were very lukewarm about it, which would explain the sepia lobby card). Please keep this in mind when bidding and if anyone knows more about the this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: It is unclear whether this poster is from the first U.S. release of this movie from 1941 (see above). But the litho number on this poster correlates to being from 1941, so it seems like it is surely from that year, and the poster is incredibly scarce (we have never seen or heard of it before). Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept the uncertainty of when this poster is from.

Condition: good. The poster had separation in most of the vertical foldline and in much of the top and bottom horizontal folds, and someone put masking tape on the back of those areas, and also on the back of some tears in the borders. Some of that tape has somewhat bled through to the front (see our image).
