An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French "Affiche" Movie Poster (23x32; measures 24 3/4" x 33 1/4") (Learn More) The Mortal Sin, the 1917 John H. Collins silent woman-prostitutes-herself-for-her-sick-husband melodrama (about an author who becomes very ill, and he needs to go to an expensive sanitarium or die, and his wife prostitutes herself to his book publisher to get the money for him, but when he learns, he is furious, and chokes her to death; it has a tacked-on happy ending where he is in the death house and wakes up, and it was all a dream!) starring Viola Dana, Robert Walker, Augustus Phillips, Lady Thompson, and Henry Leone. Note that if this movie's plot seems incredibly familiar, it is because it was lifted almost entirely (with a change of occupation so that the woman could be a singer) for the Marlene Dietrich movie, "Blonde Venus", in 1932. Note that the Robert Walker credited above was NOT the Robert Walker who starred in the 1940s and 1950s, but a different Robert Walker who started making movies in 1913, and he appeared in an amazing 255 movies through 1953, a 40 year span, but most of those were westerns, and a lot of them were very minor roles, often uncredited. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: A.V.D. Beck Important Added Info: Note that we can't be certain that this great French poster is from "The Mortal Sin", but the French title translates to "Mortal Sin or Those Who Suffer", and that certainly makes sense for this 1917 movie, plus the woman at bottom center looks similar to Viola Dana. The poster has a wonderful image of a woman being ensnared by a Death-like skull figure by A.V.D. Beck. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
