An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (3sh; measures 41" x 81" [104 x 206 cm]) (Learn More)

The Gold Racket, the 1937 Louis J. Gasnier gold smuggling romantic crime film noir ("Original Story by Howard Higgin"; about a gang of Mexican crooks who are smuggling gold into the U.S. and then they sell it to the U.S. government; the Mexican government asks the U.S. government to send a federal agent to try to stop them, and a female reporter tags along) starring Conrad Nagel, Eleanor Hunt, Fuzzy Knight, Warner Richmond, Frank Milan, Jack Duffy, and Albert J. Smith. Note that until 1933, it was legal for U.S. citizens to own gold, and in fact, there were many gold coins made out of real gold! However, in a very controversial move, President Franklin Roosevelt made owning gold illegal in 1933 (through an "executive order"!), and after that, Americans could not legally own gold, and had to sell it to the government at a fixed price if they had any. So that created a black market for gold, and this movie was about that black market. It was not until 1975 that the above executive order was changed, and Americans could once again legally own gold!

Important Added Info:

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair. The poster had paper loss at most of the crossfolds and tears and areas of paper loss scattered on most folds. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. It was fairly well backed, but it was roughly handled since then, and there are now some areas where the poster is torn and slightly separating from the linen within the image, and also a few tiny areas of paper loss. The poster is in urgent need of additional restoration.
