Swanson; about settlers in Pennsylvania in 1759 who try to get the governing British to ban alcohol sales to Native American Indians) starring Claire Trevor, John Wayne (as James 'Jim' Smith), George Sanders, Brian Donlevy, Wilfred Lawson, Robert Barrat, John F. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this Canadian one-sheet! This poster is somewhat of a mystery! There are similar Canadian posters for other top RKO titles of the 1930s, and some people have sold them as being from the first release year of each movie (we know of one case where one such very expensive Canadian poster was altered to make it look exactly like the U.S. poster, which is very sad). However, we think it is far more likely that these Canadian posters all date from the very early 1940s. Why? Because they are a different size from the first release U.S. posters and they are not of the same printing quality of the first release U.S. posters (although they are quite nice), and since I know that Canadian theaters used U.S. posters in the 1930s, I think it is extremely likely that it is NOT from the first release year. We think it is far more likely that when World War II caused the major Hollywood studios to lose distribution in Europe, and also caused them to lose most of their top stars to the war, they likely made a deal with Canadian distributors to re-release their classic movies in Canada at some point during those war years. This is further reinforced by the fact that other Canadian posters like this have surfaced over the years, and they are usually from classic RKO movies from throughout the 1930s, and they are often found together, but printed on very similar paper, making it far more likely they were printed at the same time. But we don't have any absolute evidence to prove this, but we would be VERY surprised if someone could prove that this poster was from the first release year. Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. The poster was never folded. It had a 1/2" tear in the lower right border and a few faint scuffs scattered in the image. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking.
