An Original Vintage Folded French One-Panel "Grande" Music Poster (1p; measures 47" x 62 1/2" [119 x 159 cm]) (Learn More)

Josephine Baker was a black African American stage performer, singer, and actress from the 1920s to the 1970s, who spent much time on stage, and made only a few movies. She went to Europe and achieved enormous success (and notoriety) in the Follies Bergere and other shows, because she danced nude in some of her dances. She only starred in two movies, both in the 1930s: Zou-Zou and Princess Tam-Tam, but she appeared in smaller roles in some movies in the 1920s and the 1940s and 1950s. She continued performing throughout her life, and was performing in a stage show, "An Evening with Josephine Baker", right up until she passed away in 1975, at the age of 68.
Artist: Gaston Girbal
Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare pre-World War II French poster, which we have never auctioned before! It is from when Miss Baker did recordings for Columbia Records, which she started doing around 1931, and this poster is from 1933. Virtually no French posters survive from before, during, or right after World War II. Apparently there were many paper shortages in France during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all pre-World War II posters!

Condition: good to very good. There is some small paper loss in the far right of the bottom fold and some separation and tiny paper loss in small parts of some folds. There are some creases along the folds and around the edges. After a simple linenbacking, the poster will display wonderfully!
