An Original Vintage Theatrical Style A Movie Glass Slide (measures 3 1/4" x 4" [8 x 10 cm]) (Learn More)

Melody Lane, the 1929 Robert F. Hill vaudeville acting romantic love triangle musical ("It's a Universal"; "Story by Jo Swerling"; about a vaudeville performer who has an act with his wife, but she leaves him and takes their young daughter; a few years later, she has become a big star and he is down and out, but when he is able to heal their sick daughter by singing to her, the family is reunited) starring Eddie Leonard ("'The Minstrel King'"), Josephine Dunn, Huntley Gordon, Jane LaVerne, Rose Coe, George and E. Stone. Note that Eddie Leonard is completely forgotten today, but starting in the 1890s, he was one of America's top performers in minstrel shows, performing in blackface, and he acquired the nickname "The Minstrel King". In 1929, after decades in vaudeville, he appeared in this movie, and he only had two minor cameo appearances a decade later. He was 59 when this movie was made, and yet he played the young father of a newborn baby. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.

Important Added Info: Note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). We have taken a digital photo of each that shows the general condition of the overall slide and holder, and we have also made a digital scan that shows the glass image well, but does not show the holder (except as a dark outline).

Condition: fair. There is some deterioration around the edges of the slide and a small bit in Leonard's chin and in Dunn's credit (see our image). The cardboard holder has staining around the staples.
