An Original Vintage Unfolded Stage Play Poster (measures 28 1/4" x 42 1/4" [72 x 107 cm]) (Learn More)

Blue Jeans, the 1890 stage play production ("Blue Jeans will never wear out"; "Written by Joseph Arthur author of 'The Still Alarm'") starring Robert C. Hilliard, George D. Chaplin, J.J. Wallace, Jacques Kruger, W.J. Wheeler, Alice Leigh, and Marian Mourdant Strickland. Note that one of the posters for this play has one of the most classic melodrama images there is, which is of man on a table about to be cut in half by a sawmill blade! The caption under it reads "The Great Saw Mill Scene", and this may have been the first time it was used, or it could have been done prior to it. Even though this scene seems to be a classic movie scene, we have never seen a single movie poster that illustrates it! We have also seen two other styles that feature other scenes from the play, and one that is a montage of scenes. If anyone knows more about this play, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this is one of a remarkable group of around 100 guaranteed authentic mostly war posters (around 75 war posters, plus 25 others, including political ones) mostly dating from before 1900 through 1945, with 15 from after that date! These were originally acquired by an archive decades ago, and they have been in storage ever since, until they were recently consigned to us. Many of these are the sorts of posters that you can find reproductions of on the Internet, but finding guaranteed originals like these is incredibly difficult (years can go by before these are offered for sale or at auction). This is a very rare opportunity to purchase any of these more than 100 posters!

Condition: very good. The poster was never folded and it had just a few small tears and tiny bits of paper loss in the borders. Someone put paper tape on the back of all the borders to reinforce them. Otherwise, the poster is in pretty nice condition, especially considering its age. After a relatively simple linenbacking, the poster will look fantastic!
