An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Forty by Sixty Movie Poster (40x60; measures 40" x 60" [102 x 152 cm]) (Learn More)

The Petrified Forest, the classic 1936 Archie Mayo romantic crime thriller ("From Leslie Howard's Famous Stage Hit"; "The Stars of 'Of Human Bondage' Reunited For The First Time"; based on the play by Robert E. Sherwood; about an educated hobo, a pretty waitress, and a desperate criminal all interacting at a remote cafe) starring Leslie Howard, Bette Davis, Charlie Grapewin, Humphrey Bogart (as Duke Mantee), Dick Foran, Genevieve Tobin, Porter Hall, Paul Harvey, Joe Sawyer, and Adrian Morris. Note that Humphrey Bogart is 4th billed, and was not pictured on many of the posters! He had begun acting on the stage in the 1920s, but to no real success. In 1930 he got a Hollywood contract at Fox Pictures, but he had little success there, and they released him after two years. He returned to the stage, and in 1936 finally was noticed in the small but vital role in the stage production of this classic play, where he appeared with Leslie Howard. Howard was signed for the movie version of the play, and he insisted, over studio objections, that Bogart be cast as well (he sent a telegram to Warners that read "No Bogart, no Howard"). Bogart never forgot this great kindness, and he much later named his daughter "Leslie".

Important Added Info: Note that this is one of the special 40x60 posters that were created by the Meloy Bros. Inc company of Shelbyville, Indiana in 1935 and 1936! This company created special 40x60 posters that were distributed to theaters in the Midwest, and are NOT like 40x60 posters that were created by the studios at that time. VERY IMPORTANT! CLICK THIS LINK TO READ FULL INFORMATION ABOUT THESE SPECIAL POSTERS (do not bid on this poster until you have read the information on the linked page).

Condition: good. There is surface paper loss and tiny paper loss around the edges of the poster (more so in the corners), and the poster is "lifting" from the board in the corners. There is a scratch in the poster starting in the bottom of Davis' hair in the top image, and running into the background at the right of her image. There are creases and scuffs scattered throughout the poster, more so in the background areas, but there are a few in the stars' images and their faces (study our super-sized image to see exactly what they are, but they are not very distracting). There are also some other scuffs and smudges throughout the image and some dents and tiny areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster (please study our super-sized image to clearly see the above described defects). Certainly, a talented restorer could perform restoration to this poster, after which the defects would not be very noticeable at all. Please be sure to go to the above link that tells more about the history of these posters, and also tells how it will cost around $120 to send one of these posters within the U.S.!
